The Day The Universe Went Public

The Day The Universe Went Public was written in 1986 for Stockton Heath Methodist Church.  We had just performed a very successful production of Godspell and wanted to do another musical with a larger cast.  Unable to find a suitable one we wrote one ourselves.

The Day The Universe Went Public was the story of Joe Public, a dreamer who cleaned floors at the Illicit Industries factory.  Illicit Industries made robots which didn't work.  Joe dreamt of travelling throughout the solar system selling the robots.  A kind of Planet Suite for the modern era.

The Day The Universe Went Public featured a cast of 28 actors playing 53 characters.  It was John & Geoff's first stab at writing and it showed.  The show lasted three hours (including the interval) and featured 14 original songs.  The lyrics of the songs are published on these pages.  A live recording was made of the show and has recently be re-released on an unsuspecting public on CD.
